Screencastify And Minecraft Are Now Available

Students will be able to log in to Minecraft: Education Edition with their AISD email address. (Students can find this in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) After logging into an AISD email account, students will be asked to enter their student ID number and password in an AISD Portal pop-up window. This will occur regardless of the device that the student is using.



This page has links below to install Minecraft: Education Edition on any student device. Scroll down to your device to find specific instructions. Before installing a personal computer at home, students should talk to a caregiver.

Instructions for installing on Austin ISD Student Chromebooks



Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version Minecraft: Education Edition must first access the Minecraft installation page from the Google Play Store. Ebookmarks Chromebooks for students should be able to find the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the lower right of the screen.



Only apps that have been approved by districts are available for install in the Google Play store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button on Google Play.

Instructions for Installing on Non-Austin ISD Windows Computers



Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft: Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. The downloaded file needs to be opened and located. It should be located in either an additional tab at the bottom of your browser or in the Windows Downloads directory. Ebookmarks



The Windows operating system will walk you through the process of installing. Select the language you prefer and then accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the Install button. It is possible for the installation to take a while before you can see the Finish button. This will end the installation.



Directions For Installing On Macintosh Computers



Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft: Education Edition for Macintosh. You'll need to find the downloaded file, then open it. It should be located in the Downloads folder or a new tab at the bottom.



The Macintosh operating system will guide you through the process of installing. Select your language and accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until asked to click the "Install" button. It is possible for the installation to take several minutes before you see the Finish button. This will close the installation.



Directions for Installing On iPads



Once an instructor has installed Minecraft Education Edition on an Austin ISD student iPad, students can access Minecraft. During school hours, find the app in the Creator Apps section of the iPad.



Download Minecraft onto your iPad from the iTunes Store. The application is available as a free download. Click the button below to open the app on iTunes.



Installing the Screencastify Screen Capture Extension



A live demonstration of learning can be a useful method of demonstrating it. Screen capture video is a great way to demonstrate an online activity for students or teachers to capture a digital product using their recorded voice to describe the experience.



Screencastify is an Austin ISD approved Chrome extension and students and staff have the option of adding the extension on their own by visiting the Chrome Web Store.



Instructions for Students Installing Screencastify



Austin ISD students have access to the Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store from which any approved app can be downloaded. This is the only way to install the Chrome app or Chrome extension on an Austin ISD Chromebook. On the Chromebook, open the Chrome launcher, find and open the Chrome Web Store app. Click the Austin Independent School District link to view the app library that is approved. This page will assist you to find Screencastify and install it.

Capture Your Video



Once the Screencastify extension is installed, all students can create a video up to 5 minutes long. Make sure you practice your group presentation before you begin recording. Optional Editing of Your Video
