Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March

In the year 2020, the developers announced a major change to Minecraft: Java Edition, in which players would soon be required to swap from the Mojang account to one with a Microsoft account to continue playing. Although it's still an incredibly long time to wait, the developers have confirmed the date and issued the final request for account migration.



You will no longer have the ability to play Minecraft: Java Edition if you have an account with Mojang account. To "improved security, player safety" the developers would like everyone to switch to Microsoft accounts. Server stat They offer free Minecraft caps to encourage players to do so.

This is purely a unification of the account system. You'll be able to use your old username, too - you'll just need to have an Xbox gamertag associated with it.
