South Korean University Creates Minecraft Metaverse And Holds Entrance Ceremony

Minecraft is a game with limitless potential that is always being showcased in impressive new ways. Many important in-person activities have been suspended due to the chaos that is happening around the world. One college decided to go to the Minecraft metaverse in an effort to combat this.



Reddit user posted a video of a Minecraft-based entry ceremony at Yeungnam University in South Korea. Yeungnam University's creative effort allowed students to celebrate their first steps into college by creating the virtual Minecraft space that reflects the college they will be attending for the next few years.



The video highlights the event featuring students sporting unique Minecraft skins, staff members speaking on stage, an auditorium packed of games that keep the participants engaged and explosive fireworks to mark the day's special occasion.



Yeungnam University discuss the "metaverse university" and the outstanding students who helped create the project here. The students who created this project are members of the Yeungnam University Minecraft Server Club (YUMC). Although it was only established in February, the club already has 300 members. The club has brought students from various fields to create their own Minecraft campus.



Seo Seung-wanwho is president of YUMC Seo Seung-wan, president of YUMC, expressed his regret for the lack of communication and interaction at school because of the COVID-19 extension. The members of YUMC collaborated to build the virtual campus, and even included details that only students of the university would notice, such as their favorite restaurants on campus. They designed all the key locations of their campus including the Central Library, the Chunma Art Center, the Student Hall, the Outdoor Auditorium and the International Exchange Center.



Yeungnam University has found the Minecraft metaverse version of its campus to be extremely useful and is used regularly for important occasions such as gatherings or military send-off ceremonies.



"We have held the brand new '21' freshmen admissions ceremony in the metaverse in March of this year," student Lee Bo-gyeong said on the entrance ceremony that Yeungnam University held in Minecraft. "We wanted to hold an admissions ceremony that was planned by freshmen's seniors who could not have a proper admissions ceremony due to COVID-19.
