A Rare Version Of Minecraft Is Being Revealed Ten Years Later

An extremely rare early version of Minecraft, long thought to be lost, was rediscovered over 10 years after its release. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released for the original Java Edition in September 2010 and was only accessible for a little over three hours. Now it's been rediscovered by gaming archivists. System32



There have been a variety of versions of Minecraft throughout the years, and fans have meticulously collected and archived most of them for reasons preservation. However one particular version, called Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday was thought to be completely lost. System32 While it introduced sneaking and fishing rods to Minecraft but was later discovered to have a game-breaking glitch that caused the screen to turn completely gray, and was replaced in a matter of hours by version 1.1.2.



@lunasorcery, via Kotaku posted the complete story of its rediscovery over Twitter. Luna clarifies that Alpha 1.1.1 was a meme that was common or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. Nobody believed they would find it.



Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets, and she was asked about it. She eventually discovered an archive of minecraft.jar that was on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna checked the file and confirmed that it was Alpha 1.1.1, which she then published on Omniarchive which then exploded.



So I made a post on the Omniarchive server, and it's not overstatement to say that a few people reacted.



Based on the reactions the reality of the magnitude of this is begins to take hold. I literally start shaking.
