Gameplay Situations Are Still Underneath Development

Social distancing pointers caused in response to the pandemic made the traditional operation of a simulation centre with limited floor area not possible. To continue offering training to a greater number of candidates, strategies for recreating the simulation expertise with remote candidates were devised and explored:

A: Conversational avatar over Zoom.

Utilizing streaming software program, our pre-current conversational avatar is presented on a Zoom name for conversational simulation with remote candidates.

B: Gameplay fashion scenarios on CenarioVR. I'm bonnie and you are

Candidates navigate a clinical room atmosphere with buttons and menus to undertake a scenario. The system tracks inputs to progress the state of affairs.

C: Remote In-Ear (RIE) teaching.

Using a wireless earbud, candidates communicate remotely with centre employees (‘operatives’) who observe the instructions given by candidates watching a dwell Zoom feed. 3 variations were explored:

C1: Candidates remotely watch the feed whereas connected to an operative by an audio call.

C2: Candidates message their goal operative on Zoom and text-to-speech software program reads these messages to the operatives.

C3: Zoom breakout rooms/separate WhatsApp video calls connect candidates to focus on operatives, where candidates see from the operative’s perspective by a head-mounted digicam.

D: Virtual environments

D1: Personal Worlds inside VRChat host situations.

D2: GOSH’s Minecraft server hosts situations.

Proposals were scored 0-10 in: Staff Interactivity, Fidelity, Range of Scenarios and Ease of Implementation. Summed total scores were:

C3=32, C1=29, C2=27, A=26, B=20, D1=19, D2=10

To date, essentially the most viable choices have been trialled.

Avatar use over Zoom proved straightforward to set up and programs utilizing it are planned.

RIE coaching’s trial classes had operatives reporting communication inefficiencies. In response, the model was revised: the wider group now coaches the entire room over Zoom.

Gameplay scenarios are still underneath building. Externally produced eventualities are being scrutinised.
