Minecraft maker Mojang plans to launch a spin-off game

Mojang Minecraft, the maker of Minecraft is developing a spin-off title based on its block-building game.

Called Minecraft: Story Mode, it's an episodic game that takes place within the familiar Minecraft world, but introduces some new characters into the setting.

The game is being made by Telltale Games which has produced numerous other episodic games.

The first episode is scheduled to be released in 2015 on consoles PCs, consoles, Macs and Android devices.

It is unclear what the experience will be like. Mojang has created a brief game for browsers called InfoQuest II to demonstrate what it could appear like.

Mojang announced in a blog post the game will be developed using the help of the Minecraft community.

It was created to assure players that Story Mode is not violent and bloody like other Telltale games. It's all about ed Telltale's latest games include Tales from the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us and titles based upon Game of Thrones and the zombie-themed thriller The Walking Dead.

"Telltale's Minecraft-inspired game will be similar to Minecraft," stated Mojang, "but it's an entirely original design that is that is influenced by our game."

Mojang has released a new version of its Scrolls card-based game of magic fighting. Shortly after the announcement of Story Mode is out.
