Since 1.14 Village and Pillage, Minecraft villages have seen drastic changes. There has been a total rework of how trading as well as the economy of items and the tasks each villager takes on. This will be a comprehensive guide on how to manage trades and your villagers. You should be able identify the best way to get the items you require at the end. Now now, let's get started!

How Many Villager Jobs are There in Minecraft?

There are currently 15 villager positions available in Minecraft. This is a list listing all the possible jobs villagers could get. If you're interested in a particular job, you'll need to place the job block that corresponds to the desired job next to the Unemployed Villager. The job that is assigned to the villager will determine what kind of trades they'll offer. Villagers can be removed from their job block when you do not have a villager who is unemployed. If you're unable to acquire the desired trades from a villager you can take away the job block and then put it back in place to load their trades.

Minecraft has many types of villagers

Villager Appearance:

Not only do the tasks of villager change depending on their profession, but their appearance will differ in every biome. To make sure that each job remains distinct, they keep traits that are specific to their field of work. All Farmers will wear straw hats, and all Librarians will wear glasses.

Stock trading

As of 1.14, Mojang has introduced the delightful concept of 'Supply and demand.' This basically means that if you execute a specific trade too many times and the villager run out in that particular item, but prices (amount of items/emeralds you need to give) will also increase in the event that the item is traded often. Trades can be made up to 4 times before the stock runs out. So Many Books Villagers will replenish their stock once a day. The price of an item will decrease if it isn't traded.

Unlocking Trades:

When a trade is made between a villager and the player, both of them gain experience. The next level of trades is unlocked when the villager's level increases. There are five levels of trades for each villager to unlock better quality items. The level of the villager can be represented by a colored badge on their clothing. It can be a range of Novice (Stone) or Apprentice (Iron) and Journeyman/Gold), Expert(Emerald) up to Master(Diamond).

Wandering Trader

It might seem odd however, it is the truth that there is a villager who is different from the rest. The Wandering Trader is a passive mob, like Villagers in general, but it appears randomly throughout the world, with no apparent pattern at all. It has two leashed trading lamas that are like normal llamas, but with a cosmetic change. Another peculiarity about this Villager is its lack of trading levels. This means that any trades you've taken with him will remain yours forever. Don't worry, as his trades will reset the next time he spawns in.

The trades of the Wandering Trader are often obscure and difficult to locate. Not particularly impressive or powerful, but valuable nevertheless. Be quick, as the Wandering Trader will vanish after 40-60 minutes.

Popularity:

As an athlete, you enjoy a level of popularity. This is reduced by taking negative actions like attacking villagers, but increased by trading often or curing zombie villager. BLOG Negative actions increase prices while positive ones reduce them.

Let's say that your village is attacked by Illagers, while you coincidentally happen to be in the area, and you manage to stop the attack. You will be awarded the 'Hero Of The Village' status effect, which will further reduce the cost of trade (except for trades that cost 1 emerald.)

Those are the basics of Villager jobs and trading in villages. You should now be able to manage that villager farm as a pro! Mojang feels the need to rip the carpet from right under our feet often, and for better or worse, trading can be somewhat more complicated due to Supply & Demand mechanics, along with the popularity function. You can make use of these features to either greatly help you, or even ruin the trading economy on your Minecraft server. I hope that you found this guide useful. Best of luck and I wish you all the best!
